Can we mutually agree to view the Union flag as a symbol of Northern pride, white or black? And if not, what would you see as a symbol you could get behind?

You are likely fishing the wrong waters for this answer. I am curious however.

I truthfully find the American flag more offensive than the Confederate flag.
The scorecard of history agrees.

That weak excuse won't protect the confederate flag.

The flag of the war of northern aggression is a stark reminder that sometimes, germans invade and are generally unwelcome

The Stars & Stripes flew over the institution of slavery a helluva lot longer than the Stars & Bars did. On another history note, no slave ship EVER flew the Confederate Flag. EVER. Wanna guess how many thousands of those Yankee vessels flew the American Flag?
Most folks today have no clue about much of anything, unless they see it on the nightly news or read it on the 'Net--especially history--as told by all sides of the events in question.
Just saying...

Did you know Paul Revere's horse was named George? This is where half of the parents of the Beatles gave their kids their names.

The path of the intellectual goes as such:
Never be offended.
Have no heroes.
Never hate anyone.
