Are all Alabama fans sidewalk alumni?

Their fan base literally increased five fold in 2009.

We had a running joke at work about the wheels coming off the band wagon when Bammer lost a game.

In 2009 I had the N. Alabama territory. The Friday before the South Carolina game, I was all over N. Alabama calling on clients. You could not spit out the car window without hitting a Bammer hat, shirt, or flags.

Low and behold, SC pulls the upset.

On Monday I made the statement, "I won't have to look at all that crimson today." I went from Chattanooga to Scottsboro, to Section, to Rainsville, to Fyffe, to Fort Payne, to Collinsville, to Lee, to Centre, and then back up I59 to Chattanooga.

I saw one car...ONE...with Bammer flags. I saw one...ONE...old woman with a Bammer shirt. That was it. You would have thought they passed a law outlawing crimson.

I have a friend who is a UK graduate and fan. He swears that Birmingham changed colors in one weekend after Auburn returned that kick. Crimson on Friday and blue on Monday morning.

I grew up in Birmingham (lived there until I was 10) and don't recall this "flip" you speak of occurring. I'd say the folks in Alabama, for the most part, are diehard Auburn or Alabama folks. Of course there are bandwagon fans, because they're everywhere.
