Statement from Kellee Reinhart, spokeswoman for The University of Alabama Presidential Search Advisory Committee:
UA System Chancellor Robert Witt will recommend Dr. Stuart R. Bell as the 29th President of The University of Alabama. Dr. Witt will make his recommendation in a called meeting of the Board of Trustees on Thursday, June 18, in Tuscaloosa. Dr. Bell is currently Executive Vice President and Provost at Louisiana State University, where he is both chief operating officer and chief academic officer. His responsibilities at LSU include oversight of all academic, research and student programs and coordination of related fiscal operations.
Dr. Bell began his academic career at the Capstone, joining the faculty in the College of Engineering in 1986 and spending 16 years on campus. From 1995-2002 he was chair of the UA Department of Mechanical Engineering. During his tenure at the Capstone, the Center for Advanced Vehicle Technologies was established and Dr. Bell served as director (1998-2002). In 2002 he was named Dean of Engineering at the University of Kansas and held that position for 10 years. Dr. Bell is an alumnus of Texas A&M University.

I vaguely remember him as a freshman at Alabama in 2002. Though I was in civil engineering.

At first glance, I like it. The engineering programs at Alabama have improved immensely under Dr. Carr. Adding Dr. Bell to that as University President should only help.
