In the context of his argument, it's absolutely relevant. The entire premise is that if atheists would just open up their minds, they would see the truth. He then holds up the jews, a group he obviously believes do NOT possess the truth, as an example of superior thinking ability of the religious.
If what he believes is the truth, then the jews are just as lost as everyone else. They need to open up their minds as well.
