True story. I dared my my buddy to get a $15 sushi plate from that ginormous Kroger coming into athens on the way to the park this morninf. we got high as frick then ripped hard in the heat for about 4 hours. he cramped hard like a miscarriage at the end and whipped over to shite in the woods twice on the way back to hartwell

I almost got some of that sushi day before yesterday (same kroger) because it looked pretty damn good.

Chef, I run the SPOA Instagram account if you're interested. It's @skate_spoa
The skate shop has shuffled around a bit, but is now on Washington Street between Clocked! and the 40 watt. My buddy Chris Bradley is the owner now and it shares space with a record shop. Chris is in there most days except Monday.

you should just go to inoko's by the eastside kroger for lunch sushi. 4 rolls and a drink or salad for 7.75...under 7 if paying with cash.

My kid (he's 7 now) wanted to try out skating about two years ago. I hadn't been on a board since I was about 16, but I thought it would be a fun thing to do together. I was living over on College Station and started going to SPOA to get my legs back. Left a lot of blood over in that cement, but fell in love with the park and got to know a few guys around my age to skate with. We used to have quite a crew (about 7 of us) the met up Sat or Sun mornings to skate there. I got into getting pictures of folks out there ripping it up and some of the younger kids suggested an IG or a Facebook page - I don't do fb, so I cranked up the Instagram.
Chris is buddies with a guy I went to hs with and who has skated since I've known him. This guy's got a pretty sick ramp in his back yard that he's in the process of bowling out, and a nice little street section as well. It's like a mini Skatetopia. So, Chris and I figured out all the folks we both knew coming up in Habersham and Hall counties and got to be friends. I buy all my gear from him. He's making some pretty sweet shop decks that he's shaping and painting. At $35 a pop, they're more than worth it. He's also just a cool guy to shoot the shite with.
Now, my son is really into it and we skate together all the time. He'll be doing his second summer of skate camp at KONA this year.

Not sure what kinds of set ups you're into, but Chris makes some nice larger decks (8.5") that are great for us old timers. I'm also a big fan of this company's stuff. Chris usually has one or two of their decks on hand:
Welcome
My favorite shapes from them are the Eclipse and the Necromancer - both are great as cruisers and park boards (my current Welcome set up has Stage 11 Indys (149s) with some re-issue 60 mm 90a rat bones and about 5/8" worth of risers ( I skate super loose) - it's awesome for skating downtown and at the park. I've got another more traditional set up with a 8.5" deck, venture trucks, and bones 100s wheels. Skating Reds bearings in both.

He's a little shredder, for sure ...

Thats me. with 149s I like a pretty concave deck also. wider mainly because i have a 13 foot . usually cats like us have to be at work on monday dont care about the street shite
I cant lie it took me about 5 min of staring down that back drop at spoa before i dove in. Its a little gnarly if you havent been to a park in a while
Posted on 5/21/15 at 9:17 am to Chef Leppard
My days getting that gnarly are done, sadly. I was diagnosed with MS about three years ago. I didn't realize how bad it fricked with my equilibrium and mobility until I got on a skateboard again. Every drop in attempt has ended up in me really fricking myself up - the last time was on my buddy's mini ramp, which should've been easy because of the relatively easy slope, but it resulted in my eating shite face first, coming down on my arm, and breaking a rib (the second rib in as as many months). I'm starting to get up on coping and working on rocks and shite like that on some different spots in the park (the little mini in that roll-in spot and up on the curb at the top of the ramp), but mostly I just rip around and carve the whole park.
If you hang around there enough this summer you'll run into some of the kids that are seriously badass in that place - most of them have grown up skating it for the last 10 years. They'll show you some lines that are a lot of fun. I've learned a lot skating with them. Hopefully I'll be able to hit the park up some more this summer - haven't been down since March (I live in Rabun now). Mostly been skating my buddy's spot (the one with the skate park in his yard) and hitting spots around Brunswick, Fernandina Beach, and Jax (I'm down in that part of the country every other weekend). I've gotten to be friends with Marty and Laurie Ramos at Kona, so we're skating there as much as possible - they're doing a bunch of renovations right now, which is cool, and that snake run is just about the most fun you can have on a board.

Kona is badass. havent been there in forever. my brothers ankle is all metal over a trip there about 5+ yrs ago. he was fearless as frick before that happened. But we're from Sav obviously and everybody around there skates kona all the time
I bet. Its always a good time watching guys chew up a local spot theyve been skating forever. especially a compact setup like that
There was a kid that walked up from the trails behind the park and skated with us yesterday . he had a pack on and had been sleeping in one of those hammock tent things for a couple days and just skating during the day. pretty damn cool really
thats pretty eery. we have a good bit in common. we should pm sometime. I don't know how your progression is going but stay active man. I cant imagine a better way to manage it than skating regularly as much as you can
Unrelated, but have you watched that clip of that 12yr old out in cali landing that 1080 a few years ago. Im sure you have. I still watch that shite from time to time and get chills I thought about that when you posted the pic of your kid
