The "consequence" of unsavory art should never be the expectation of murderous violence. That's not normal for decent people of any creed, and shame on you for attempting to rationalize such.

I don't even hate Muslims, nor do I condone desecration of ANY religion, but no Christian I know is going to go shoot up an art gallery for showing a cross in a vat of urine. Nothing along those lines excuses violence like this, and you know it.

But the soft bigotry of low expectations says that we would be wrong to expect more from Islam, because...well...you know...

When we start discussing a shooting that was instigated over a drawing in terms of "seeing the issue from both sides", we've crossed over from cliche knee-jerk liberal defense of Islam to something more closely resembling a Portlandia sketch.

This isn't a debate over tax policy. There aren't pros and cons to each ideology. Someone got shot because of what they drew. I wouldn't have drawn it personally, but this "seeing the issue from both sides" is a lot like the old: "What was she wearing?" questions to rape victims.

You keep talking about the way things "should" be, instead of living in reality.
