I stopped in Woodstock and had lunch at Bubba q on Hwy-92 last week and they brought out a Nerf sized bbq stuffed baked potato that was about as good as it gets. Hot waitresses as well made for a fine dinning experience.

What's the atmosphere like there?

Right by my house. I go on Wednesdays for .50 wings. That place is pretty good
Heirloom by my office is money too

Mixed crowd in a family atmosphere at least at lunch from what I saw.

Dawg Gone Good BBQ in Athens has been here a few years but I still think of it as new. I just tried it today for the first time, got a rib plate with collards and squash casserole, and a pulled pork plate with slaw and mac/chz.
It wasn't bad, but it wasn't off the chizzain either.
Yes, I would eat there again, but only because of it's downtown location and reasonable prices. It's not good enough to go out of your way for.
Pulled Pork- win
Slaw (spicy and vinegary, raisins in it)- win
Mac/chz- meh
ribs- meh
collards (might have been canned)- nah
squash cass (veg-all and stouffers)- nah

As long as we are doing a BBQ Spot Thread...
Randy's in Savannah is glorious, To-Go only, usually sold out by 11:30 am daily.
Cash only.
Ribs and Chicken, that's it. It's a honey mustard style sauce. You either get the sauce or you don't get the sauce.
I highly recommend.

Is it like a hole in the wall or like Fox Bros?

Their ribs are solid. Butt hutt tends to be my reliable option but I'm looking forward to seeing what sauce house has to offer should they ever actually finish construction and open on broad. Sad to say Rooters closed down this weekend

Was that the place on Whitehall, that used to be the Creole place, that used to be JotEmDown BBQ?

Me and friends looked at buying/leasing this spot for a bbq place a few years ago. A tattoo parlor eventually moved in, but closed down shortly after. I beleive it is still abaondoned. Glad we didn't pull the trigger, price of pork has almost tripled since then, very low profit margin on bbq, we'd have lost our asses.
Corner of Pope and Hancock in the downtown residential grid of Athens. You wouldn't have had the walk-up traffic of being downtown proper, but you are in a good location for locals to eat there for lunch and dinner, pros and cons to being downtown vs being slightly off the grid. The building is perfect though.
Another spot we looked at was the shack that used to be used by Aqua Linda for storage in Normaltown, but a gay arse coffee shop bought it. That would have been an awesome location.

Yall should give Pulaski Heights BBQ a try if you haven't already. It's a little more upscale/pricier than your average bbq place but well worth it.

Oh it's definitely a hole in the wall variety.

Those are my favorites. I'll have to try it out this summer.

damn. I ate there a couple of times, and was always pretty good. Just in a bad spot over there though.
It is sad Athens doesnt have a balling arse BBQ spot.

Is Butt Hutt still over there off south milledge by the loop? Thought it was a decent option but always thought there should have been better places in Athens.

Yeah, they inherited JotEmDowns sauces and sold bbq goat. It was a nice option in the limited scene.
As for Butt-Hutt, yeah it's the one off Macon Hwy near South Milledge. It's alla round solid and reliable. Good sandwich, alright ribs. The brunswick stew is more like a bbq puree but it's friggin awesome on a cold day.
I've had Pulaski Heights a few times and thought the sides were better than the actual bbq. It's good but like most Athens bbq, it doesn't strike me as ruling the roost.
I'm hoping Saucehouse may be able to step up to the plate and up the game around town. I mean if beer in Athens can up its gam by adding Creature Comforts and Southern Brewing, bbq should be able to attract some pitmasters. Last I checked, Athens was a pretty desirable place to live AND a growing food capital of the state.

Butt Hutt serves chicken mull so they get the need in my book. We eat their a good bit. Their pulled pork is very good, brisket too. Ribs were meh, but could have had a bad rack; I'm willing to order it again. Their potato salad is on point also.

I've eaten at the one down Prince. I believe the whole operation is the brainchild of the Epps Catering person.
I thought their sides were excellent, but the meat itself was average.
And hey, average bbq is still pretty good bbq.
But they are overpriced. To be fair, they are probably fairly priced. But in Athens, regular price is overpriced.

I can agree with that. I'm a big fan of their vinegar based sauce, and have decided that their specials are usually the best thing to order. The greens and mac n cheese are usually the highlight though.
