The only negative side effect I could see from it is programs that use them have to bring in new playmakers every year to make up for the loss. As a whole I don't see how it's an issue for the game as a whole.

Because it takes talent out of the game that it could keep. Teams can bring in new talent, but that still doesn't change the fact that talent has left the game earlier than it could
