Because Jones had told Dobbs' parents he would give him a RS year to focus on academics. After Worley was injured, he asked Dobbs' parents if they could play him. They agreed.
He even tried to play Peterman first to try to save Dobbs' redshirt. Peterman started the Alabama game. After I think it was 2 series, it was clear Peterman couldn't play under the lights. Peterman out, Dobbs came in. He finished that game and started the rest of the season.
