Its the narrative that matters, facts aren't really that important.

So did Yall actually read this thread or did you just open it and see AU logos and start to cry about it?

why do Bama fans look down on UAB & UAH grads?
Serious question? I have seen it in person from Bama fans that did not even graduate from UA.
Just do what Chattanooga did and become Birmingham

I think Alabama and Auburn have a crush on UAB.

The first bill proposes ethics training for BOT members at ALL public colleges and universities with mandatory annual training in SACS standards and compliance and members could be removed for violating SACS guidelines.
This affects ALL public colleges/universities int the State of Alabama. Who was the last public university in hot water with SACS, due to BOT interferance??????
And I wonder if the crooks and rouges that run Alabama State University will allow this bill to pass?
The second bill - specifically restructures teh UA system BOT and decreases consecutive terms. Why would this bill pass to restrict terms for UA BOT and allow other systems to operate as is?
The third bill - would require UAB to reinstate and maintain a football program. They were never able to maintain a football program without funding from the UA system, so how can they maintain one now?
I have doubts any of these bills pass.

I reject the premise of your question

I read them. If you read any of the threads about UAB that have been on this board then you would know my interest in this topic has nothing to do with Auburn or Alabama and everything to do with my hometown, Birmingham, and UAB which is a major component of it and part of the city's identity

and will remain part of it

Yes it will. But I'd prefer what's best for it to help it thrive, not to simply be there.

It has thrived and grown as a part of the UA system. I can assure you that is never going to change.

You can thank the UA BOT for its stewardship in making UAB what it is today.

I've never seen anyone look down on someone for graduating from UAB or UAH.

As API, they really don't have a dog in this fight. Hell, your own atheletic department is in the red. Your system to not be viable financially. Here your telling the University how to run its board. Seems to me, you need to get the crap off your own carpet, before you worry about anyone elses.
UAB football is in the red and financially defunct. They started out wanting to play on the main stage, when they should have been playing on lower levels in another NCAA division. You have to walk before you run. I'm surprised that you people down south at API didn't know that. Then again, expecting common sense from you guys, is just to much of a reach.

Again, you're right and I won't argue that. But UAB has long since passed the point where it can grow and thrive on its own. UAB is doing great in the system, but its not reaching its full potential, not even close, and it never will if those in charge keep holding it back. UAB is big enough and established enough that it should be able to look out for its best interests and they aren't being allowed to.

HB 339 should pass and honestly something like this should have been done years ago. After all the crap Auburn went through with SACS, all because of a couple of board members, I would hate to see any school go through that. Not that it would completely keep trustees from meddling, but the threat of removal due to violation of SACS guidelines might tone it down some.
HB 340, even if it passes both sides of the legislature it will die on the ballot. Not because Bama fans want to keep UAB tethered, but because a lot of people in the state really do not know or care what the board of trustees do, or how it is currently selected. In cases like this, voter will vote to leave something as is because they figure it isn't hurting them as it is now.
HB 341 is just ridiculous and it is a shame it has even been listed as a bill.
