Aren't as important as they are made out to be? He wasn't much of an impact player in 2014 but...
He ran. Sub 4.3 forty, had 22 -225lb bench reps, had very good vertical and broad jumps... All at 5-11 205 lbs
Auburn loses him and artis-Payne and fans are saying auburn will have an upgrade at running back this year?
After his running in 2013, especially the td run against Georgia, I thought he was gonna be awesome in 2014.
I remember him dropping that pass vs ole miss

He's definitely proof that non-combine 40s are worthless. ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

the 40 is just one piece of information. Obviously you don't want super slow times, but a respectable 40 combined with good showings in other tests (shuttle; 3-cone) can help you understand a players strengths and weaknesses.
I'll take a RB with slower top end speed (4.4-4.5 40) but really good acceleration and change of direction skills (good 3-cone and shuttle drills).
The problem isn't the 40 yard drill. The problem is people that only look at the 40 and don't look at the other drills.
edit: For example Ameer Abdullah was the 12th fastest 40 time at the combine for a RB (4.6) but posted the fastest 20-yard shuttle and 3-Cone drill times.
