Defensive end DaVonte Lambert is expected to miss the spring due to a knee injury suffered against Samford last season, and he opened practice off to the side. What was surprising is that fellow defensive end Gimel President, who averaged 30.3 snaps per game last season, also wasn't available for drills. President's injury is unknown.

Elijah Daniel, another Tigers defensive end, stayed out of a few early position drills, but by the end, he was practicing along with the rest of the defensive line.

Carl Lawson and Alex Kozan, who both missed last season due to offseason injuries, both looked fluid and easy moving around. Keymiya Harrell was also back in action.

Backup guard Jordan Diamond, who's battling an injury, didn't do any sled work, but he was in a helmet and looked like he would be participating some in practice.

Former safety Derrick Moncrief and former defensive end Raashed Kennion both opened practice by working at strong-side linebacker.

Returning kicks during the special teams portion of practice: Stanton Truitt, Jovon Robinson, Peyton Barber.

Auburn's No. 1 secondary in pre-practice drills: Jonathan Jones and Joshua Holsey at cornerback, Tray Matthews and Johnathan Ford at safety, early enrollee Tim Irvin at nickel.

Nick Ruffin lined up at safety early.

NFL draft hopefuls Reese Dismukes, Chad Slade and Patrick Miller attended Auburn's first practice of the spring.
