Depends on your age - when I was in high school and college, River Street was great. Now you couldn't pay me to go down there (especially on St. Pat's). I'm in my forties now and have four kids - we march in the parade every year and do mostly family type stuff but that doesn't mean we don't have a good time. Hanging out in the squares after the parade is fun if you know where to go for booze, food, and bathrooms. I highly recommend Knights of Columbus on Liberty Street at Bull Street - best "pour" in town. They open up the ballroom and there are plenty of bar tenders and room to spread out. Bathrooms too. Doesn't matter if your not a member or Catholic - just remember you love Notre Dame.

35 and single, just want to experience it, going down with 3 friends.

Okay. Knights of Columbus for relatively cheap drinks early (following or during parade) - its not an advertised thing so you'll get a real taste of the local scene. Pinky Masters on Drayton (across from Desoto Hilton at corner of Liberty and Drayton) has an awesome $5 bloody mary - Pinky's has been in Esquire and other mags for best dive bar in America. Great juke - will be packed but that's Savannah on St. Pats. Later you should check out Kevin Barry's on River Street - authentic Irish music etc but will be a mad house that day. A more authentic Irish "pub" is O'Connell's on the corner of Drayton and Broughton Street Lane - its the unofficial home of the "Ancient Order of Hibernians". Very small but awesome ....

Don't know what your range is, but we always stay at the bohemian when we go down. real nice place. its just kinda our spot. but at this point, you might want to frantically start scanning trip advisor or one of those sites and start scanning for deals. If I can talk the little woman into coming down that week ill give you heads up. We're overdue for getting a beer or twelve together my friend

Downtown Savnnah does not have an open container law. Just keep it in a cup and you'll be ok. At 35 and single with friends you'll want to pack a cooler and post up at Chippewa Square. The parade is on a Tuesday so it won't be super crazy but still a good time.

Honestly, you wouldn't miss anything if you stayed away.

I'll be there too. Possibly in a kilt. I might walk with the Shamrocks though.

That's one of my biggest regrets in life is never living downtown. I always lived in Ardsley and then made my way to the islands.
