In the Walking Dead, they've said that everyone is already infected (they don't know how it started as far as I know) and when people die, they turn since the virus (or whatever, but has to be a virus) is already in them. That was what was going on at that CDC lab where the guy had studied his wife and showed reactivation in her brainstem when she died and reanimated.

Yes. I remember that. But, the question for me is...what activated it? I mean..people died for thousands of years without turning so what caused it to happen then? I don't believe it could ever happen, but stuff like that is always interesting to debate.
