Jim Morrison: Early Days

Learned something today, thought I'd share.
I would guess most of us share the wild man vision of Jim that was personified in the great movie, The Doors.
I found it interesting that Jim was a pretty normal guy when he was at UCLA, short hair, a little pudgy, and pretty disciplined.
At the end of his time at UCLA he opted to stay in LA instead of going back to NY.
He took a notebook, oranges, and acid (bought over the counter) to a rooftop above an abandoned office building and began his metamorphosis.
He spent nearly a month on the rooftop exploring his conscious -- eating only fruit, taking copious amounts of acid, and writing in his notebook. What came out on the other side was a much learner guy, with longer hair, and a notebook of songs.
Before the rooftop Jim had seen just a couple concerts, didn't know how to play an instrument, wasn't into music all that much -- but through his altered state of consciousness he was reborn as a mystical poet.

"Mystical poet" is a bit of a stretch, and I say that as a fan.

He broke on through. To the other side.

I don't think whether or not he was really matters to what was shared.

It's well proven that acid produces good songs. We wouldn't have any doors songs or the second half of the Beatles without it, but in the case of Morrison, the acid wasn't enough and he died young.

He got into all kinds of other shite and ultimately lead to his death. The acid wasn't enough. The dude lit the candle on both ends.

Saying the acid wasn't enough is kind of odd for a number of reasons. I don't know if I can muster the metaphysical might to explain why.
I'll add he was also much more calculated and in control than how he was branded, it was intended to be that way. Most things he did, even the exposure incident was premeditated (that particular incident was influenced by something he went to a few days prior).

I think the magma was injected.

No, it was swallowed.

Probably true.
Maybe he was a bad mystical poet, still a mystic, and a poet.
I think some of you just like to club the moles as they pop their heads up. Cavemen.

He wrote about sex and drugs so I'd say mystical poet is a bit of a stretch.

No and no.

No. While Morrison was a decent song writer, and the Doors were a decent band, they get god like status because he died. There are at least 20 bands ahead of them in the pantheon of great 60's bands.
Had Morrison lived, he would probably be playing the state fair circuit with REO Speedwagon.

Did anyone say they were the best band of the 60's?
I feel like you're being oddly confrontational. This isn't a thread proclaiming the awesomeness of the band.
Moral of the OP - Jim was a military brat, a short haired, semi pudgy normal guy until he transformed himself physically and mentally on an abandoned rooftop in LA over the course of a month.
You can think Jim sucks, I wouldn't totally argue, but to deny that he was a mystic and a poet is just craziness.

A bad poet and as mystic as someone working for the psychic friends network.

You are proclaiming him as a "mystic and poet" not being confrontational, just pointing out you are wrong.
So yeah, I guess I'm being confrontational...lol
