word. star parker has an excellent book on this. she tried to get off the system, but the system didn't want to let her off.

she settled on realizing that welfare is the most systematic racism we have.

I hate using terms like that because it feels so much like race-baiting, but it's true to an extent. I think a bigger "-ism" it represents is "class-ism," however. The welfare system perpetuates itself not based upon one's melanin levels, but by preying upon the difficult realities of lower class life.

It harms the very people it's supposed to be helping by penalizing them for attempting to leave the metaphorical plantation of their poverty.
