Why do some SEC schools have their men and women's bball in different arenas?

Alabama does because the women's team barely draws any fans.

Why play in a 15K seat arena when you only bring in 300 fans on a good day?

It's a much better home court advantage when the crowd is condensed and there aren't 10,000 empty seats in the stands. It's the same reason volleyball teams don't play at a huge arena.

We save light bulbs in Coleman that way. All 9 of them last much longer that way

It works for Alabama because the women's program doesn't have a large following and Foster Auditorium is small. It's also newly renovated and a historical site. So it gives the ladies an arena and keeps an important Civil Rights era building up-to-date.

For Kentucky it isn't. Memorial is the gym that the men played in before Rupp Arena, so it was an established facility. It can also accommodate smaller crowds that women's game draw on average, even though the women will play bigger games in Rupp from time to time. And often hosts other sports such as volleyball.

The Joe Craft Center practice facility was built where the women have exactly what the men have (a practice court for each team). It's been well worth it for both programs.

Bball as in baseball??? My guess is too many games would tear up the field + the occasional scheduling conflict even if that conflict was a matter of too soon for back to back games?

For us we were one of two schools that had separate ADs until very recently. We also have some wealthy women alums (male alums/fans too) and they organized themselves well. It worked out very, very good as our SoftVols stadium is the bomb! We land tourneys because of it too. And truth be told softball is popular here because our women's AD did a fantastic job working to build a loyal fanbase.

If you mean roundball we use the same court.

ETA: I see you mean basketball now. Our LVs are too important for that ish tho'

Because Tennessee's women need a way bigger venue than their men.
