I agree with your premise. If a donor wants to contribute to academic achievement at UGA there are plenty of avenues to do so. However, there should also be a means to contribute directly to the AD knowing that said monies will go towards athletic development. And specifically, I would imagine that the AD would get more donations if donors knew that our AD was committed to achieving a NC in football. Alabama is a prime example of commitment to athletic excellence and for this reason they have more revenue from many different sources and therefore more money to spend.
As such the problem with our AD/admins is lack of commitment. They have found what they consider an optimal economic model that wins just enough athletically to keep the donations coming in while allowing them to siphon money towards academic development. IMHO, the 2 recipients, athletics and academics, should be separate in terms of donations allowing donors to make an informed decision about where they want to make their contributions.
