Harbaugh will be defined by what he will do at Michigan, if he goes there.
Certainly his years at Stanford and San Diego warrant merit, but it's not hall of fame level. Same for his tenure at the 49ers.
He'll have the ball in his hands to see what Michigan brings. If he does well, kudos to him.

LSU/Auburn fans - get all the dickriding in while you can, because if Harbaugh goes to Michigan and starts going 7-5 every year, it's going to be hard to keep it up.

3 straight NFC title games one of which was with Alex Smith. That alone may be HoF worthy.

Harbaugh has been more successful than Saban on the college level. Harbaugh won big at a private school with lots of white players. That team was one of the worst in the country when he took over. Saban doesn't have anything like that on his resume. Plus he failed in the NFL.
LOL. Only an Aub can discount National Titles.

Saban hadn't won shite when he was Harbaugh's age.
Nick Saban turned 50 in October of 2001. He won the SEC less than two months later. Jim Harbaugh is 51 this week.

Why does Saban's salary need to go up because of another coach being paid more? I've never understood this in sports.

If you're hiring a head coach with the intentions of winning as many NC's as possible, you hire Saban.

And Harbaugh has been to 3 NFC championship games, 1 Super Bowl, and 1 BCS bowl. Clearly more than Saban had accomplished at the same age and it is really not close

Cool beans. He should win a national title in each of the first five seasons back in college because of that.

Really the question is, does Jim's great years in the NFL/Stanford mean he deserves to be paid more than a man with four National Titles?

With the most talented team in all of pro football. Maybe not in 2011. But in 2012 and 2013 there was no doubt who the most talented team in the NFL was. That was San Francisco. However they were very close in 2011.

This!
If he goes to UM, he will make more than Belichick, Carroll, and his brother.

Saban only wins when his team overwhelms the opposition with severe talent advantages. Saban's NFL stint proved that he folds when playing field is equal.
Harbaugh took over dumpster fire 1-11 Stanford and upset #1 USC on his first year.

In a remarkable upset, the visiting Stanford Cardinal won 24–23. USC was favored by 41 points over Stanford, making the game the largest point spread upset in college football. USC entered the game with a 35-game home game winning streak (its previous home game loss also happened to be to Stanford, in 2001) which included a 24-game home game winning streak in Pac-10 play. By contrast, Stanford had compiled a Pac-10 worst 1–11 season in 2006, which included a 42–0 loss to USC. To compound the situation, Stanford's starting quarterback T. C. Ostrander had suffered a seizure the previous week and backup quarterback Tavita Pritchard had never started a game and had thrown just three passes in official play.

Coaching salaries have gotten way out of hand IMO
Weren't top paid coaches around 2 mil not but a decade or 15 years ago?
Now we're going to quadruple that? Insane.

How so? The question is what a coach deserves. Name a coach that deserves to be paid more than Saban. We'll wait.
