Jimmy Filler, a huge booster approached the President with pledges for a indoor practice facility. It was when the President evaded accepting the money and commenting on football, that he began to suspect something was afoot. Shortly after that, the letter outing the plan was sent to the news and UAB.

Yeah, we should probably take $5m away from a heart hospital to put it towards an indoor practice facility for a football program nobody cared about.
