Does not have to happen at all...

Your post just shows you do not understand the reasons behind the CFP in the first place.

# 1 Allow the B1G and PAC seats at the table and protect the Rose Bowl brand
For years they have pushed the value of the Rose Bowl but since the SEC and the B12 moved to 12 teams and had CCG's it pushed back the value of the Rose Bowl as no longer providing MNC's since only the B1G and PAC played in it.

# 2 Allow the BIG a seat back into the MNC title discussion
With only the Bucknuts getting in in the past decade or so and then getting humiliated by the SEC the B1G (with lots of living alumni and lots of eyeballs for advertisers) was getting left in the dust. If you are trying to sell the BTN across the USA to advertisers and no team is on the national radar it gets hard to sell the ad space.

# 3 Validate the dollars spent by the media companies for the rights fees they pay to broadcast CCG's
If media companies are shelling out 20 - 40 million per year to broadcast each CCG they want a reason folks should tune in and make the advertisers happy. If the B12 or Notre Dame don't play in such a game then folks will tune out and that will cost somebody some money. Advertisers are not happy when folks don't watch.

# 4 The CCG's are intended to become the defacto "1st round" of the playoff
This way you already have a built in 8 team playoff that excludes Gang of 5 schools so the Power 5 schools don't have to split the money pie with them. It is pretty obvious when you look at it yet people still refuse to accept it. The B12 refused to believe it and now they have seen first hand that their way of thinking will not fly with so much money on the line. Long term Notre Dame will probably join the ACC as they already have 5 yearly contractual games and they are ACC members for all their other sports. With the current setup you have 4 CCG's for 4 playoff spots and 2 alternates (Notre Dame and B12 school) if a favorite or 2 loses their CCG.

It is the perfect setup and should be the long term resolution until the B12 adds 2 more schools OR they dissolve.

It took the "Mulligan Bowl" to get Jim Delaney and his PAC 12 counterpart to move toward a playoff...

It's going to take two teams from the same conference and Notre Dame getting in to go to 8...

and my advice to the Big 12, get BYU and a 12th team ASAP!!!
