Bruce Feldmen is reporting that assistant David Beaty has been told he is getting the Kansas head coaching job.

In an ironic twist, this helps us with Muschamp. The rumor is that he was told they didn't have openings for all of the assistants that he wanted to bring. Now we do.

No. Not it doesn't.
Why would Muschamp want to bring his offensive assistants?

Whoever Beaty theoretically takes will most likely need to be replaced. If Spav stays he will be dual OC/QB coach so we will need to replace position coaches if he takes any

Mmhhh. I didn't even think about that. Its very possible he may try to rake some of the other assistant coaches by offering them promotions.
Please take BJ Anderson. Please!

Kansas doesn't have the budget to take any of our assistants to be frank. Beaty was OC/WR at Kansas when we hired him as WR coach. He was at KU as WR coach before that and Rice hired him away for a year (by making him OC). That's where his and Sumlin's path crossed.
Anyway, don't look for anyone to go with Beaty. Great guy but assistant pay between the SEC and Big 12 is enormous, not even taking into account that KU that is a job graveyard. I'd expect him to assemble a staff very similar to Chad Morris's with several HS coaches and GAs on it.

They do if it means advancing their careers. I can see Beaty offering Price the DC title or McKinney play calling duties as OC again
Not the best examples, but definitely a possibility.

They will probably pay $400k or so to coordinators*. I may be mistaken but every single one of our assts is over that now. And they'd be taking a huge job killing risk. Kansas has shown zero support to their football program forever. Charlie Weiss called them out on it time and again (I think he wanted out)
The only guys that would go would be ones that Sumlin tells to go find a job (ie, the new DC won't retain you or I plan on replacing you)
* eta - Clint Bowen who has been their interim HC this year is making 275k

Any effect on recruiting for this year?

So turns out Beaty's salary is like 750k at KU. And he kept on Bowen as DC. I like Beaty and think he fits better as HC than as a Coordinator but KU basically is punting football. Their facilities and crowds suck so may be really difficult to do much else right now with the money they are paying out to fat guys.
IMO it's a massive mistake given the longer term tenuous situation of the Big 12 but I guess they think Hoops and AAU will keep them attractive enough. Probably true.

yep. But they are paying Weiss $2.5m for the next 2 years as well.
They are in a really bad situation because their highest attendance this year was 36k. And realize that's completely deceptive since schools report tickets sold, not butts in seats.
Tickets are basically free because their stadium holds 50k. Even if they average $50 per ticket (they almost certainly don't) that's only $1.5m per game. That's simply not tenable when you are paying $5m for your coaching staff ($2.5 for Weiss and Beatty's whole staff). Luckily for them their hoops program is a money machine

tmc, do you have any idea how much Beaty was making at A&M? 750k probably isn't much of a pay increase from his salary here.

think like 400k. It's a decent raise
Also on the Weiss thing, they tried to make a splash and gave him a huge contract. Because of how shitty their facilities, recruiting base, and fans are, they have to overpay because no one thinks they can win there.
Honestly it's a lot like our hoops situation was in the 90s before Reed was built. If you think hoops has been depressing the last few years, you didn't go to school in the 90s
