I guess with Rupp I was just expecting an on-campus palace, but got a downtown almost shopping mall atmosphere outside of it. The inside of it was impressive as hell though, so maybe I'm being unfair. It was also the SEC Tourney in the early 90's so I didn't get the full Kentucky home game experience. Need to go back there for a Kentucky game, though my interest in college basketball isn't near what it used to be.

UK and the fans have been agitating for a new Arena for the past several legislative sessions; something along the lines of the Yum Center in Louisville. Rupp is a great atmosphere and is a good place to see a game, if you are in the lower arena or near the bottom of the upper arena at courtside. If you are in the rafters, then you are paying $50.00 and can't see anything without binoculars.

I love that Rupp is downtown and not on campus. I think it drives home the (gumpish) point that the team is really the Commonwealth's and doesn't belong exclusively to the students. Additionally, there are an incredible number of great eating and drinking options downtown these days. And the bars on campus are terrible and the UK student population gets more GDI every year. So I'd rather be downtown.

This...

Game in Rupp vs Top team like UNC or Michigan State and the place is like no other. On a side note, the glory days of any venue is already past as cell phones have greatly affected the atmosphere of all sporting events. texting and selfies is just a different type of person.
