I don't like playing WC either, but I'd rather play a San Diego State than a Troy.

y'all play a bullshite ooc game every year just like everyone else in the conference does. why not schedule an in state team for those games and help out in state programs? every one else in the conference plays in state teams for this reason. it's just a nice gesture and spreads goodwill to other state supported schools. not sure why alabama is so against this. it was a rhetorical question obviously because bama has made a point not to play other state teams for years for whatever moronic reason. it's as if they feel threatened if it's not all bama all the time even though they have no reason to feel that way.

What's the difference between Alabama paying Troy $1 mil and MSU paying Troy $1 mil?

Troy gets $1 mil either way.

We get wayyyyy to caught up in our pseudo-NFL, warped, view of college football.

The SEC is a revenue generating giant. College football as a whole is. I wish part of these television deals would go to keeping struggling programs alive. It was just 10 years ago that UAB with Roddy White absolutely crushed TCU and Baylor, two top 6 teams. That's not long ago, fellas.

Bill Clarke got that team bowl eligible. They were going somewhere.

Unless the Big 5 start paying their athletes, there is no reason these athletes at struggling programs should not receive the full value of their scholarship. They play and practice really hard.

I don't care about the finances of this deal; I don't. The University of Alabama system made a commitment to get that program up and running. This is going to be a HUGE, HUGE black eye on the University system. It will also create a lot more animosity between people in the state. I have friends who played at UAB. They are big Bama fans, but still enjoyed their Saturdays at Legion Field. They also relished being kids playing the game they loved and a free ride in college.

Had they developed an on-campus stadium, and actually had facilities (Many GA, TX, FL high schools have better workout/training facilities), they would have had a shot. There is a niche in Alabama for DI football in Birmingham, not named Alabama or Auburn.

I am surprised they didn't ask for a C-USA waiver for basketball and drop down to D-IAA for football until they gained stability. A lot of this sounds rotten, and it's gonna be a lot of bad press for not just UAB, but UA in general.

I think Bama just supported an in-state schools whole football program for 20-something years. When is LSU gonna do that for LSU-S?

You think they want every OOC game to be an SEC caliber team? They need at least one easier OOC game. If Troy played UA this year, then they probably would not have played Georgia.

Good riddance.

I keep reading shite like this from Bama fans, and yet I don't think of any them actually realize this is a reflection on UA as well. Colleges and college athletics are big business. If you consider UA as the parent company and UAB as a division of the company, then why the celebration? The failure of UAB athletics is ultimately a failure of the University of Alabama.

Ive also read all the arguments from Bama fans saying build a fan base, put a winning product on the field etc, as well as all the arguments from the UAB side. No one knows better than Bama about the importance of facility upgrades, stadium upgrades and coaching upgrades. Alabama has invested millions into all of those things over the past decade and has reaped huge financial rewards.

As a business would it not have made more sense to take steps over the past decade to ensure that other areas of the company also succeeded by investing in the tools to make them successful or at least profitable? I guess I just don't understand the thinking that the way to grow a program/business is to not invest anything into it other than an operating budget. So Bama fans, go on and celebrate. Just remember you're not only celebrating the failure of UAB athletics also the UA BOT's who were content to let it be a money pit for 20 year instead of making it a viable money making entity for the UA system
