It's natural to want a top 10 coordinator to try for top 30 results, isn't it?
At what point does it come down to players executing? A DC can call the perfect defensive scheme, but the players have to execute it. Why is that the DC's fault?

You're not wrong, but if we have good defensive players and they continually fail to execute, either we're on a really bad run of luck or there is a problem with the defensive coaching.
Ellis had the misfortune of facing a challenge this season with some really debilitating injuries. On that basis, I think Gus could have reasonably given him another year, but at the same time, does anyone think EJ is an innovative mind well suited to face the increasing offenses of the SEC while playing on a potentially HUNH team? I'd be surprised if anyone does.
People are looking for reasons why this move spells doom for Auburn. I just don't think you're going to find them.

It's his fault for not being able to motivate the players to execute. If there are other teams with lower caliber recruited players that put up top 25 defenses with similiar offenses...to me thats a coaching problem. There were also no adjustments made in the Iron Bowl by Ellis.
