All of that happened before our first game in the SEC, and before we started dominating the state of Texas in recruiting.

Fran was trying to replace a DC during the height of Mack Brown's reign at UTx (the 2005 championship year), and coming off his second losing season in three years. We looked for all the world to be destined to a prolonged role as second fiddle to the horns (that turned out to be the case).

Regarding Joe Kines, the story goes that Sherman hired Kines because his first hire, Reggie Herring, jumped ship when he saw just how little defensive talent Fran had left in the cupboard. That isn't going to happen with this hire. We have some holes, but we have some bona fide superstars either on campus (Garrett) or on the way (Daylon Mack). From a pure talent standpoint, only Bama will have an edge on us.

And it's already been explained that a closed wallet was the reason Narduzzi didn't come.

The point is, things have changed. History is not a straight line. The King of England can rule the 13 American colonies for generations, but once the feisty New Worlders decide to tell George III to screw himself, and strike out on their own, all bets are off.

Agreed on all points, but especially
