Oh and my bad, you're right about '66....but Dooley would definitely have been gone after '69 or even after '74 if we were applying today's (skewed) expectations.

In 1980 Herschel gave Georgia fans a reason to think the team was great. Through 1982 it was. Then the team went back to being very good, but not great. In 2000 Richt started building expectations among fans that the team could be great again. It has almost reached those expectations several times but fell short.
As a fan of Georgia since 1964 I will say that exept for the three Herschel years, this is the best the progam has ever been. Richt will likely never win a national championship, but the team will never have the stink of FSU or UF or Auburn or ND or USCw or Oregon as far as slimy players and a coach that looks the other way when players lie, cheat, or steal.
Would any of you really be willing to accept the reputation those teams and players have just for a trophy? Not me.
