Missouri had a tough transition year when the entered the SEC east. The 2012 season was probably the recent high water mark for the SEC eastern division, with Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina all winning 11 or more games, and all finishing in the top 10. (SEC west only had 2 top 10 teams). Hell, even Vanderbilt finished ranked in the top 25 that year, finishing 9-4.

They had a ton of key injuries against a ridiculous schedule, and got pretty much destroyed. It can happen to anyone, as recent history as shown with a variety of teams.

Missorui has been a very solid team since 2012. 2013 obviously they were 12-2 and won the SEC east, and they are 9-2 this year and could very well win it again with a win over Arkansas. And winning the SEC East, IMO, even IF the division is in fact weaker, is an accomplishment worth bragging over.

That being said, here are the SEC teams Missouri has played the last 2 seasons:

12-2, (7-1) Auburn - Loss 42-59
11-2, (6-2) USCe --- Loss 24-27 OT
9-2, (6-2) Georgia -- Loss 0-34
8-5, (5-3) Georgia -- Win 41-26
9-4, (4-4) TAMU --- Win 28-21
9-4, (4-4) Vandy --- Win 51-28
6-4, (4-4) Florida--- Win 42-13
7-4, (3-4) TAMU --- Win 34-27
8-5, (3-5) Ole Miss - Win 24-10
6-5, (3-5) USCe ---- Win 21-20
4-8, (3-5) Florida --- Win 36-17
5-6, (2-6) UK ------ Win 20-10
5-6, (2-5) UT ------ Win 29-21
5-7, (2-6) UT ------ Win 31-3
3-8, (0-7) Vandy --- Win 24-14
2-10, (0-8) UK ----- Win 48-17

This is why Missouri isn't getting much credit for their success from many who follow SEC football. Of their 13 SEC wins the last 2 years, they have only beaten one other SEC team who won more than 4 games in conference. That was 2013 Georgia. 9 of their wins have come against teams with losing records in conference.

Now, personally, I think they should get more credit for taking care of business against average/mediocre opponents, but Missouri is not going to get the kind of attention and respect that the posters here want until they beat somebody good when it counts.

I think they'll have a chance to do that after they dispose of Arkansas at home. But until they win that big game, people are only ever going to think they are solid, and nothing special.

If we're going to excuse missouri's 2012 because of injuries, our 2013 team should get the same treatment.

I think most rational people excuse 2012 Missouri, 2013 Georgia, and 2013 Florida for their sub par seasons (relative to expectations) due to injuries.

You are right. I respect their program but Bama is going to prison rape them.

Gotta beat Arkansas - but given Missouri's recent track record against average teams, I'm sure they can do it.

It's the game after that which can change the perception of the program.

Because unless Auburn magically doesn't suck, Missouri will get Alabama in Atlanta, and a win there changes everything.

You would think so. All 3 teams just had disastrous luck that year.

Beating Arkansas won't help us because as soon as we do then the media will jump off their bandwagon and tell us how they are really just a 2-6 SEC team. Same as the Tennessee game.

This exactly. SC won the east in 2010, but does anyone really care since they got throttled by auburn? Missouri hung in there last year but again, lost when it mattered most. You posted it in the OP...missouri's best wins in 3 years are over teams that went 9-4 (4-4). Big deal. They will get the respect they crave when they actually beat a big time team, for instance bama in the SECCG.

Umm...they would be. They are 1 game above .500 and 2-5 in the SEC.

Tennessee is 5-6 and 2-5 in the SEC.

Congrats?

This is all true.

We aren't really in a position to seriously hope to contend against Bama unfortunately, this year. We've overachieved quite a bit to get where we are.

What's kind of sad/funny is that if we had eked out that Indiana win (and we should have), we'd be in the talk surrounding the playoff. And we have no real business being in that conversation.

Do I think it's impossible that we beat Bama? No. But they're a favorite for a reason. Now, if through an act of God it ends up being MSU, I think we match up a lot better with them.

Which ignores what "everyone" is saying right now. Arkansas is awesome. Top 15 club. Blah blah.

We beat them and they will go back to sucking. Happy to oblige.

Great post, I think it explains why Missouri doesn't get that much respect despite having a very high winning percentage in the SEC over the last two seasons.

What people are saying about arkansas right now is 100% true.

-just won their first SEC games in 2 years
-overall and sec record sucks
-currently playing their best ball of the season

what's wrong with that? They are a bad team that is recently playing well. If yall beat them it won't change the fact they'll be 6-6 and 2-6

Beating the Hogs will mean nothing hell beating Bama would mean nothing because Trolls do not use common sense. Mizzou has exceeded EVERYONES expectations and anyone who knows jack shite gives them the credit they are due.
