I said in the media, not by the media. Meridians coach earlier over J'Mar Smith (unjustified), Liggins coach at Oxford both nailed Mullen publicly.

Did Merlins drop the scholarship because this kid wouldn't be considered a diamond with his 4* status?
Please answer honestly.

He's a middle of the pack composite 3* so probably not.

When else has he been hammered for it by the media?
Last year when we dropped the Oxford kid. CL did a write up on it and the coach said he wouldn't let Mullen back to recruit, but it think he backed off that after the smoke cleared. Then Ole Miss dropped a kid a month later and nothing was said about it. I can't remember his name because we didn't recruit him but I remember thinking that it just happens and I wish it didn't get blown up when it happened to us.

Without this kid State has 30 commitments. More shuffling to come. Dan stays they upgrade on current commitments or if he leaves they hemorrhage current commitments.

So he's still a diamond, salt of the earth, possibly true maroon guy? This kid seems like the kind of guy they would love to have. This truly does not make sense.

Unfortunately this is true, there will be more weeded out. Some due to grades and what not but there may be another asked to grey shirt. He honors in state commitments first so I expect if any others get pulled they will be out of state kids.
First time it's happened without reason. There have always been underlying issues. One a few years back got caught with weed, the one in Oxford didn't make the weight room progression the staff told him he needed. The third tore his ACL, backed off because the rehab wasn't getting great reports, we hooked him up with a JUCO offer and he tore his other one.

The only kid Freeze has dropped was Mario Mathis in Nov. Of 2012. Mathis tore his ACL badly and wasn't the same.. Mathis signed with UCF and is the 4th string H-back

If this guy didn't want his scholarship pulled he should have been better at football. Get on Muffin's level.

After last week Dak is staying and they previously thought he would grade high and go. We can't have 6 QB's on scholly. That's really the only reason we would do it.

I'm sure Virgil would have appreciated knowing that he had a scholarship spot only if the current Junior QB (who was injured most of last year) declared for the draft.

And if you bring up paying for school, maybe he should have made the grades to have it paid for regardless. There is no reason this has to change his plans.
Good God.

Maybe he did, I really don't know and neither do you. It sucks but what can you do about it? They wanted Tiano more and tried to avoid dropping Virgil, unfortunately they should have just axed him months ago. On one hand at least they tried to hold onto him, on the other it really turned out worse when it fell through.
A grey shirt is more than I would have offered. Call me heartless but I'm not willing to offer a scholarship in next years class that will have less room for mediocrity. The fact that the staff offered a grey shirt means they were willing to honor their commitment to give him a scholarship, albeit a year from now when it opened up.
How's that for a fricking spin?

Yeah, I can't tell if he's trolling on that one or not.

Bush League. Hope Mullen stays out of Texas if he is going to treat our high school players like this. Well, it might not be his choice. I can see coaches not letting him visit Texas HS players anymore.

Well...they have to leave the state of Texas to play for NC's.

Not at all. The kid can grey shirt. He wouldn't see time next year with Dak returning anyway. This in no way changes the kids outlook over the next year, it is his decision to take it or not.

So now its the kid's fault because he was lied to and isn't making good enough grades to get a full ride on grades alone. Get the hell out of here with that nonsense. Its hard to believe you actually think this is ok.

Yeah then we got two commits from there less than 3 months later. That coach is really holding a grudge.

Liggins coach at Oxford
The kid never went to school. The staff warned him several times about getting his grades together and attending class. That coach came off looking like an idiot trying to defend an undeniable situation. Either way, we don't ever get players from Oxford, just like you'll never get players from Starkville, so what does it matter?
ETA: There have been a couple other rumors floating around about the kid getting caught multiple times with drugs, is that justification or did we still do the kid wrong?
