I really don't understand why some nonbelievers are so bothered by the Bible. I found the Bible interesting when I believed, and I still find it interesting now (albeit for different reasons). It is inarguably the most important book in the history of western society and should be treated as such. IMO everyone should read it, because far too many Christians and nonbelievers alike are horribly ignorant of what is in it.
I despise people who brag about their non-belief and have never so much as even opened the Koran, the Bible, the Vedas, etc. They are worse than those who blindly believe because at least many of them are seeking meaning and purpose through belief. "Angry atheists" are just arrogant assholes who make idiots of themselves.
If you haven't read the source material and researched the various major religions, how can you in good faith trash them? It's like saying Charles Dickens is a shite writer without ever reading his novels.

They hate it because it points out something wrong in themselves that they know is wrong, but want to justify anyways. They cherry pick out the statements that showcase "intolerance" for their preferences (like sex before marriage, sodomy, homosexuality, eating delicious bacon-wrapped shellfish, ect) The bible also becomes the go to scapegoat for all of their problems, for every perceived slight, and for every person that was ever mean to them. They see the Bible and Christianity as the embodiment of their parents, that one uber religious person who told them they were going to hell, and their childhood church that told them not to have sex before marriage and they rebel against those "authorities" and spew hatred on everything they see as related to that.
Those that hate the bible and those that have read the Bible are rarely the same people.
Those that read the Bible, hate the Bible, and understand the Bible, do not exist, even if they choose not to believe in it. There is literally something in it for everyone.
