Is rather keep Ward. Muschamp would use this job as a stepping stone

I think 90% of all Asst Coaches see their current job as a stepping stone. Most of them want to keep moving up or facing tougher challenges, or make more money.
I would love Muschamp as Asst Head Coach.. That's probably what it's going to take. We would have to fire 1 of the position coaches and then pay him $1+M.-ish. Ward would be the DC in title still and still have a lot of responsibility, but Muschamp would be helping alot with our scheme and just defense overall (as well as coach LB's.)
Then we have to make the call, do we keep the DL recruits we have, IF we fire Deke and hire Brad Lawing?

Literally none of this will happen. Spurrier won't pull the trigger. If I'm wrong I'll eat crow but I won't be. And 50% of this vaunted recruiting class won't be eligible. Meanwhile we'll waste 3/4 years to see if the others develop.

Spurrier Today:
He also addressed whether he'd consider hiring Muschamp in the future. Spurrier's defense has been woeful this season and he and Muschamp are good friends.
"I don't have any comment," Spurrier said.
...but he didn't say no.....

Oh I'm dead serious. The man is clearly not ready to be a HC in the SEC but he can damn sure coach a defense. Great win on Saturday. We were cheering like hell for y'all in Athens.

I'll eat that crow with a shite eating grin as if it were my mothers buttermilk fried chicken. But I highly doubt I'd need to, OBC is dear set in his ways. And will not shake it up in order to win an SEC or more.

From what I am hearing this morning, and I just got back from down there ... it ain't gonna happen. I dunno, it's going to depend on how we handle these next two games I suppose.
I wish we could do a package deal and get Boom to come and bring Lawing back with him ... everyone would be willing to welcome Lawing back with open arms on this end I was told.

What do you mean isn't going to happen, Muschamp, Lawing or both?

I honestly don't see any of our D coaches getting fired.. maybe a lower level guy, if anybody, but Spurrier seems disinterested in firing anybody. Maybe it's just a poker face, idk..
Ideally, we work Muschamp in as Asst. HC of the Defense (like EJ prior), keep Ward as DC, and bring back Lawing. That would be superb... but that's highly unlikely.

Pretty sure Ward wouldn't appreciate it either. He turned down the FSU DC job last year

That would be the grand slam, agreed.

Yes, but he also had a great defense last year. This year he bombed on his recruiting projections and had the worst defense in the SEC FSU wouldn't even accept his call this year.

Remember I said this and see if I'm right.
Ward is staying
Deke is staying

Tony Morrell reporting on 247 this morning:
quote:
After speaking with multiple sources I feel comfortable reporting Steve Spurrier wants to hire Will Muschamp. Whether or not it all ultimately works out remains to be seen, but I believe he will be presented with an offer from South Carolina. I also don’t think Muschamp coming to South Carolina would necessarily signal the end for Lorenzo Ward. There could be a scenario where Muschamp becomes the assistant head coach and Ward retains his coordinator title and salary. That route would require some concessions on Ward’s part, but it would allow him to keep his family in Columbia and he’d still play an important role on the staff.
If Muschamp is hired, I fully believe he would have an eye on parlaying it into a shot at the head coaching position when Spurrier retires. I don’t think it would come with a coach in waiting tag, but I could see South Carolina athletic director Ray Tanner offering assurances that he would receive serious consideration when the time comes if he does an excellent job with the Gamecock defense. Two sources in the coaching community confirmed Monday night that becoming a head coach again one day is important to Muschamp. One of those coaching sources also has been told Florida has to pay Muschamp the full $6.3 million buyout whether he takes another job next year or not, so he's in a very strong position financially.
Another interesting connection between Spurrier and Muschamp is they share the same agent - Jimmy Sexton - which could expedite things if it reaches the negotiation phase. Muschamp’s record as a defensive coordinator is excellent and adding him to the staff in Columbia would be a home run both from a coaching and recruiting standpoint.
