Since there was no final game between 1 and 2 guaranteed before the BCS era you got a lot of splits. But I will offer that the 1925, 26, 20, 34 maybe the most important in CFB. This is pre AP so you can make a number of claims. But these rose bowl invites and wins put southern football on the map. Also, a little known fact was that Bear Bryant as a young teenager in Arkansas listened to the 25' Rose Bowl and decided right then to go to Alabama. Since they really didn't award a NC back then there was nothing bigger than winning the Rose Bowl. So,I think it's safe to claim. No one else was more worthy. I'll give you 1941. I wish we would get rid of that one anyway. In my opinion all the rest have legitimacy. If LSU had a similar situation you wuoold do the same on every one.

You guys melt more down better than any fan base alive.

Irony.

I was just answering the question.

And yes, LSU claims a pre-poll basketball championship due to playing in a one game playoff in 1935 billed as, "the American Legion Bowl National Championship game" defeating Pitt in Atlantic City, 41-37.
