emersons article said he's cleared by the trainers but it's a coaches decision. He hasn't taken any contact to the shoulder yet but Richt still said he might travel this weekend. I wouldn't be shocked if he doesn't play or only gets minimal playing time this weekend though. But if the trainers cleared him, at least his scapula is healed up.

My guess is he travels, suits up, but only comes in if we need him.

Yea I agree. I imagine he will be rusty at first too. He hasn't been able to hit any since the injury. That's a pretty damn big hit to break your scapula. It's one of the bones that gives you a quick idea of the extent of trauma someone suffered

It was an odd sequence. Watched the UT game with my brother. Sony had a nice run the play before and talked some shite to their safety. We laughed about it. The very next play the safety laid the boom on him. I turned to my brother and said "bet he won't be talking after that hit." He then lightly jogged off the field seconds later with the dead arm.

What is the deal with Keith Marshall? Doubtful, questionable, doubtful, I mean what the hell.

Ridiculous assumption. I think Marshall will end up with a medical redshirt this year. He'll get PT next year alongside Chubb and Sony.

They need to just redshirt the kid. He's probably not going to be able to contribute this year.

I agree. My main concern with him is how this all affects him mentally as far as confidence. Seems like he might be better off getting back to full strength with a redshirt and coming back next year ready to play. Would hate to see him try and force it this year and have something else happen.

I also would like to see how we use him going forward. He obviously isn't a bruiser like Gurley or Chubb (even Michel is deceptively strong), so I hope we work on ways to get him in space more. Just no more swing passes, he got real jittery when they were thrown earlier this year (understandably )

A redshirt is out of the question. His doctors/trainers have already cleared him to play, therefore the injury isn't season-ending and won't qualify for a redshirt.

That aside, I'm pretty sure you can play in no more than 3 games to get a med redshirt. Sony's been in 4 games. Not positive about the 3 game cutoff though.

EDIT: Oops, did not realize the thread derailed and you were referring to KM. I thought we were talking about Michel

CMR was directly asked by reporters about KM's redshirt and he basically deflected and said "no comment". Means he probably COULD redshirt if it came to it. If he were not eligible, he would have said that.

Yea good point. Im really hopeful he can make it back to playing at a high level but man he has had a rough college experience (from the athletic standpoint) aside from some good games his freshman year.

@TM & @gatorhata

See my edit/second half...didn't realize you were discussing KM. Redshirt is not off the table for him.

Ok yea I was thinking Richt deflected when it came to Marshall but couldn't remember. I knew Michel was cleared by the training staff though.

With medical redshirts, don't they wait anyways? As in during the last year of eligibility they can apply for it to get the extra year of eligibility?

Keith Marshall- other than the fact it's a UGA player and the NCAA, how does Marshall's situation differ from Jabril peppers at michigan. Their participation time sounds very similar.

Peppers suffered a leg injury in September and has not played since the fourth week of the season. He decided this week to preserve a year of eligibility by remaining on the sideline for the rest of the season, which will allow him to apply for a medical redshirt waiver.

"He's improved, but he's just not going to be where you want a guy to be who has that kind of ability," Hoke said.

Marshall must have a season-ending injury to be eligible. We don't know whether or not he does.

If a guy gets injured (sprains his ankle) and chooses to sit out the remainder of the season, he's not eligible for a medical redshirt. Some doctor somewhere has to convince the NCAA that it's season ending.

I would say pretty good chance Marshall gets a medical redshirt, in part because he apparently wasn't 100% after the original injury, and then the next injury happened. Pretty sure they would be able to get some doctors to make the argument...

And it's not like there's any reason to try to rush him back, either...

Yea with something like a sprained ankle or knee it wouldn't be too hard for them to make the argument that he is out for the year, especially given his prior injury that took him longer to recover from after surgery if I remember right (could've been JSW I'm thinking of). I'm assuming it's a high ankle sprain too given how long he has been out, most players are never back to 100% from that until the offseason anyways, even if they do return.

I'm trying to think of times they've denied a medical redshirt to someone but none come to mind immediately.

ETA: I should've googled first, plenty of times the NCAA has denied them when it seemed obvious the player should get the extra year. They seem to be consistently inconsistent in this matter as well
