I've heard y'all mention that the D coordinator has an A team and B team that he rotates frequently and most of the big plays have happened against the B team. How do you like this approach and do you think it will continue to be effective?

Being able to put a fresh 1A team in after the opponent has reached the redzone has really helped us keep teams out of the endzone.

Best red zone defense in sec

Allegedly their B team is the only reason our game was close or something like that.
If so, seems like an issue with coaching philosophy if you're not willing to put away teams you should.

I like it when we can get away with it. You may not see the true rewards of frequent substitutions for another year or so, but it's smart coaching.

Yeah we definitely need some lessons from kentucky

it's incredibly frustrating at times, but we will be praising it next year.

I mean you can't have it both ways. It was all "well you only scored on our second string" but you mean to tell me everybody was ok with it being pretty close until late in the 4th?
If it's a system that allows fresh bodies on the field to avoid bad red zone situations then it is what it is. But it comes off pretty rich when it's thrown around as a "you weren't good enough for our first string" if you're essentially saying your first string can't last on the field.

Yeah, because it's really just Mullen saving legs when it takes a TD off an onside kick in the 4th to get it to a 2 TD win.

It was a game we knew we were better so we played guys more than we normally would. Against lsu, aTm, and auburn we didn't mass sub until game was essentially over.
We know we lose a lot of seniors this year so we're playing some guys to make sure they're ready next yeat imo

Then why play your first string offense the whole game if it was a gimmie to "get players reps" for next season?
Talk about talking out of both sides of your mouth.

If you noticed everytime you got within 1 score, we put in our best. That's why you couldn't tie it up

Why does it matter? We've won every game.

I'm not sure what youre even trying to say...
We play our best when a game is in limbo.
I see now (I'm dumb)... We have plenty coming back on offense next season. Defense is where we need to make sure guys are ready

We are deeper on defense... Also those are two different sides of the ball, so umm... you can do different things.

But it was just little ol' UK. You shouldn't have needed your first string offense amiright?

The game was never in serious jeopardy for us no matter how much you want to believe it was.

The "issue" has worked to perfection so far. We have never been in doubt about the outcome of a game. Do we care about completely shutting out other teams from scoring? Not really. Will we have capable players to rotate in if an injury occurs to one of our 1A players? Definitely. The philosophy has worked perfectly so far as our team has looked like the freshest, most conditioned team in every game this year. I will continue to trust what Collins is doing over what a bunch of posters in the sECrant say any day
I know this may hurt but we never had to keep our 1A players out against Kentucky. In the end you really didn't have a chance to win the game.

It will be interesting to see if the coaches stick with this method in Tuscaloosa.
