you mean to tell me everybody was ok with it being pretty close until late in the 4th?

Yes. The game was never really in doubt. You had the ball what? twice? with a chance to tie? And you didn't get a first down in those situations. We were basically using that game as a scrimmage -- no different than we used UAB. Stoops saw that too when he reviewed the film...

quote:

If it's a system that allows fresh bodies on the field to avoid bad red zone situations then it is what it is. But it comes off pretty rich when it's thrown around as a "you weren't good enough for our first string" if you're essentially saying your first string can't last on the field.

It's not about the redzone -- it's about gaining experience for guys that are going to have to carry us next year. There isn't a talent dropoff between 1A and 1B, it's an experience difference. You picked on the 2nd team free safety extensively in that game, and we'll be better in the future because of it...

We haven't had a game legitimately in doubt this year. We've trailed for fewer overall minutes than FSU trailed for last night. Literally -- 2 drives. Probably under 5 drives with teams in striking distance all season. We haven't even remotely come close to playing a complete game yet is both the good and scary thing...

Just like against A&M, LSU and Auburn the subs won't happen until we get ahead comfortably but if that never happens who knows. We haven't been in that situation yet this year.

But it was just little ol' UK. You shouldn't have needed your first string offense amiright?

Who exactly are you paraphrasing?

Ohio and Vanderbilt held UK to fewer points than Mississippi State did...

Alabama laughed at us when we brought him aboard. Evidently he was a coach at Bamer at one time. I am sure Collins, Hevesey and the rest of the assistants will get healthy raises at the end of the season. Collins is ready for Primetime but as a HC. I doubt he leaves State for another coordinator position. The magic in Starkville can't be replicated elsewhere(see Mannie Diaz).

This kind of talk has been proven invalid this year.

I've heard y'all mention that the D coordinator has an A team and B team that he rotates frequently and most of the big plays have happened against the B team. How do you like this approach and do you think it will continue to be effective?

It's great to keep the A team fresh for when we truly need them. I also love it, because opponents continue to underestimate our defense when we haven't even played the A team for a full 60 minute game.

No one "plays their A team for a full 60 minute game".

Quit acting like your 2* b teamers aren't certified SEC quality diamonds.

Don't be surprised when State loses to Alabama and Ole Miss and finishes the season out of the playoffs. Insult to injury scenario: Dak finishes 2nd in the heisman voting to an over-rated QB from a larger media market.
