Let's say, Miss St goes undefeated. Meets a 1 loss UGA in Atlanta. UGA wins. Conference champ is going for sure. FSU will be undefeated. MSU would have by far the best 1 loss resume.

Except MSU won't have a conf championship. Oregon/UCLA will, and ND's only loss will be to FSU. A 1 loss Baylor will get in before MSU. That's the whole point.

In that scenario, a 1 loss PAC team would get in.

I would think a 1 loss SEC team would be more deserving than ND or Baylor

Another problem would be a potential rematch. If UGA is in, who wants to see them play a small market team they already beat? MSU is certainly deserving, but it's tougher.

But what about UGA and Auburn/Alabama? The rematch is there if it is Auburn, but that's not as difficult with a few games separation, especially if AU-UGA was a great game. But I have to think the Committee would find having both UGA and Alabama/Auburn in the playoff to be very attractive, when compared with Baylor or someone similar.

Which conference championship will Notre Dame have?

A ND will not have a conference championship either nor will they be playing the last weekend of the season. ND will not see the playoff over a 1 loss SEC team like an AU, Ole Miss, MSU, or UA if they finish 11-1 but do not play in Atlanta or does not win there
