Non-Barners: Would You Bench Nick Marshall for Jeremy Johnson

This appears to be a big debate among the Auburn family. There are those that believe Marshall is holding back the offense and we would be more effective with Johnson. I however, value Marshall's experience and clutch ability (Saturday was the exception and not the rule).
I'm of the opinion that even with Johnson we would still have to contend with WR's who drop balls and are unable to get separation. We also have issues in the O-line that are affecting our offense as a whole. Neither of these situations are conducive to having a truly effective QB
Marshall isn't perfect but I think he is the least of Auburn's problems at this point

No. Marshall's legs and misdirection is your offense.

To football illiterate people, it's a debate.

Are you kidding? Marshall is a stud, a nightmare for opposing defenses. When he goes, there will be a reduction in talent at that position.

yes jeremy johnson is a better thrower

i am a barner and refuse to listen to your non-barner only request...
IMO there's no shot we should bench Nick. He is absolutely not the issue. He's putting up over 300 ypg on offense as a QB, and I don't care if its on the ground or in the air. Our WR, mainly Coates, still have to be better at going all out for, and catching the ball. Sammie's lack of effort on balls just out of his reach is sickening.

I won't go that far. Jeremy Johnson looks great from the pocket but we haven't really seen him run the read-option as Marshall has which I think is on Gus.

With everything i said in my earlier post, JJ is still the the better pure QB and will likely have a future in the NFL.

With the way we're struggling on O-line I couldn't imagine Johnson being nearly as effective in conference play.

Wow. No. Tell your fellow Auburn fans to calm the frick down

I really need to see more of JJ. If he can throw the football with more accuracy and zip than Marshall, all while moving in the pocket without having to jail break, I would say yes. Dukes, Coates need the ball at least 20 times per game. I think if Auburn can transition into more of a balanced offense and still successfully use the option game.. Whew.

maddening even

Coates is probably the most overrated player in the conference. Great athlete, meh football player.

Haven't really seen enough of Johnson to really say. What I have seen, he does have a better looking pass, but is that enough? I'd say no just based on the unknown with Johnson.

Auburn grad here.
Marshall's ability to keep plays alive when the line is throwing "lookout" blocks is the only thing giving our offense a chance.
Do not bench Nick.
