I do believe that the Alabama vs LSU Championship game is a big percentage of the reason that this play off came about. That and cash. Yes the number 2 SEC team would have to have a hell of an argument and the other number 4 team would have to have a weak position for 2 SEC teams to make it in. If we still had the BCS but with this playoff, I think there would be 2 SEC teams every other year. The BCS actually worked quite well which is a great reason to get rid of it.

That is stupid.
11-1 West champ loses to 9-3 East champ, 11-1 West runner up goes to playoffs. THAT would be stupid.
And in light of:

Why let 2nd rate teams play for it all?
If the SEC West Runner-Up has less losses and is perceived as a better team than the B1G champ, the B1G champ is the lesser team.
...this is an non-sequitur:

Of course. Leaving the SEC out wouldn't be a smart move money wise.
8 teams, P5 champs and champs of next 3 best mid-level conferences based on SOS.
A tournament of champions has no room for 2nd place losers. If they allow non-conference champions in, we should eliminate the SECCG.

Let both go, relax, and revisit this topic after the SECCG.

The fans who deluded themselves into thinking the SEC would get 2 teams in all the time were crazy to begin with.
The vast majority of the time a conference will not put 2 teams in, even if they deserve it.
That's the whole reason they went to a committee rather than use the old BCS formula.
The new system is still great though, as previously there was a very real chance that a 1 loss SEC champ might get left out for 2 garbage undefeated teams, that isn't an issue anymore.
Win the SEC, you're in, no scoreboard watching necessary.

Translation: The second place team in the SEC West is 11-1, has played a tougher schedule, but Michigan State is 11-2 and they actually won their conference. Michigan State over A&M/Auburn/LSU/Ole Miss/MSU.
Translation: Mizzou losing to Indiana is bad.

I will tell you what will nauseate me. Oregon is in the top 5 year in and year out. They have played absolutely sloppy this season and if they lose one game and are chosen above a one loss Auburn, Bama or A&M team, I will go insane.
