In WWI the US refused to equip it's soldiers with the Browning Automatic Rifle. It was so advanced, so unbelievable, so threatening that they believed this weapon was better kept at home than possibly giving the Germans the technology.

It was then used in WWII with great effectiveness.

Are there any parallels here? I don't know...
