I think Tony Ball needs to let these guys loose, if we have an athlete that can catch and run, then we need to put them out there.

We have those athletes. The problem is that our guys are going up against just as good, if not better athletes in our opponents DBs. You've got to know how to run a good route, how to throw a block downfield, and how to time your route with your QB to turn on the jets at at the exact moment so that the DB can't pick up on where the pass is going and when. Only guys like AJ Green get to bypass some of those pre reqs and that's because AJ was and is a flat out better athlete than most of the human beings on earth. He could finesse you to death with natural ability. Mitchell is much the same way when healthy. The rest of the receivers aren't. Guys like Bennett and Conley, though, are very intelligent, fearless, and do all the technical stuff well so they make up for those relative deficits. If a receiver isn't out there, it's because he either isn't a good enough athlete to beat a similarly athletic DB in practice on talent alone and because he hasn't proven he has an edge over that DB in intelligence and technique. Furthermore, you can't just stick a receiver out there in a game situation if you're not sure he can do it just yet. So much of Receiving is dependent on precision timing and not giving away the play or ball location to the DB. An inexperienced or underprepared receiver is going to give that pertinent info away to a good SEC DB and get the ball picked.
