When did players start wearing jerseys that stop above their navel again?

Re-watching the Alabama - Florida game and I swear it's like watching a game from the early 90s again with all the exposed stomachs.
When did this trend start again?

I noticed this too. I was like, WTF, is it 1988 again?

OJ howard started it in the WVU game. Some of the other guys started emulating him after that

I've also noticed the flat tops seem to be making a comeback.

I'm just waiting for short-shorts to come back in fashion in CBB.
Well, womens' CBB. I'm not sure I could handle a bunch of balls popping out during drives to the hoops.

That's been going around for a few years: our DJ Swearinger did that his entire time at USC - the equipment guys would have the player's shoulder pads already inside their jerseys and on top of their lockers, ready to be put on for the game, and Swearinger would tie the bottom of his jersey up under his lower back pads, so it'd look like a belly shirt:
And then others would have their jerseys ride up whether or not they intended them to or not, like with Kelcy Quarles:

It's amazing how little the football uniforms have changed in the last 20+ years. There have been subtle changes to material and helmet structure, but it has been mild compared to how they changed from the 60s to the 70s and 70s to the 80s.
