I have a Dooley story I have shared before here.

He signed his first recruit as a grad assistant for AU (before going to UGA) at my grandparents house. My parents have a picture of him with the recruit and another AU coach doing the signing in my grandparents living room.

Anyway, story:

He was young and nervous. My grandmother took his coat when he came in. After the signing was done and he was leaving, he asked my grandmother where his coat was. My grandmother thought he said coke.

She told him it was in the fridge. He actually went and searched for it in the fridge (it was one of those old huge ones that sat on the ground (parallel) and opened at the top.

He came back into the room and reported that he was not able to find his coat in the fridge.

Dooley and Jordan both won NC's. Dye should have. Erk Russell founded the Ga Southern program and won NC's there.

This was in the AJC some years back. When Joel Eaves, the AD at Georgia, introduced him to the media back in 1963 or 64 as the next football coach at Georgia, he forgot Dooley's name. He kept referring to him as this fine young assistant from Auburn. His first season was '64 but he may have been hired in late '63.

I saw Dooley play football and basketball at McGill. I've always thought he was better in hoops, he was a very good point guard and he could shoot it too.
