So why did bama wait until like 1984 to double their NC totals?

quote:

The NCAA record book recognizes Alabama with seven "consensus" national championships -- the six by Bryant and 1992.

The SEC follows the NCAA approach by starting its count at 1950 and recognizes Alabama with seven.

quote:

"I tried to make Alabama football look the best it could look and just make it as great as it could possibly be," Atcheson said. "I was a competitor myself with the other schools, and what they bragged about and boasted about, I wanted people to know the best about my school."

So the NCAA changed their record books after this?

Wrong again. For someone who posts so much on this topic, I think it is safe to say you have embarrassed yourself quite thoroughly.
quote:

While the NCAA has never officially endorsed a championship team, it has documented the choices of several selectors in the official NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Records

It documents SOME selectors. It neither recognizes or awards a champion in football, ever.

Understand, documenting someone's opinion is not the same as recognizing a champion.

This is often invoked in reference to American college football because the NCAA does not sponsor a playoff-style tournament or recognize official national champions for the Football Bowl Subdivision
