So you claim to remember the Onofrio years do you, well there's a coach who can claim some signature wins, you know like Notre Dame, Alabama, tOSU and USC. Since he didn't have the luxury of going to a bowl game with a 6 win team, he might not have the number of wins but he played the competition well and produced some good NFL players too.

I love all the cherry picking "we won X number of games in Y years" that the fan boy crew will exhort to along with Gary, it always makes his bowl trophies seem at least a little meaningful. "Well we have more first round draft picks in 5 years than just about anybody", that's great Gary, why haven't you managed to win more than one big game with all those players?

As TBTB points out, there are plenty of good programs that have come out of relative obscurity with the right coaching, so Pinkel hasn't pulled off some never before seen miracle. It's funny people like you worry so much about "his respect" from Tiger fans, why don't you head over to the rant and demand the rest of the SEC show more respect? Maybe because you know they'll laugh your clown azz off the website. huh

So what do you propose be done, short and long-term?

I respect your opinions and contributions to the board and would like to know.

Here's my take... Has Pinkel been a poor big game coach? For the most part, yes. Do I have concerns that he's still not completely up to speed at an SEC level in scheme/coaching and recruiting? Yes and yes. For instance, I think we're still too undersized, overall, and I'd be recruiting the shite out of Illinois like Kentucky is in Ohio. System or not, we need to elevate our national ranking to truly compete consistently.

All that said, do I think he's accomplished good things at Missouri? Unquestionably. The program was dead in the water when he arrived. Comatose. And in the span of his tenure we've played multiple games with National championship implications on the line. Not to mention moving to a conference where Mizzou can continue to be in that conversation if they achieve. Lots of coaches and fan bases would take that and possibilities for more.

Do certain things Pinkel does frustrate me? Yes. Would I have fired Dave Steckel after the Auburn embarrassment (on the heels of the similar Navy embarrassment)? Possibly. Do I think Pinkel will ever get us over the hump? Not likely.

But in my mind, his flaws not withstanding, Pinkel has established a floor from which to build. So my pragmatic hope is the coach after Pinkel can put the finish on the base he's established.

I really would like to hear what you see as the solutions, short and long-term.

Yes, Onofrio got a few big wins and but also lost a lot of games he shouldn't have. Al could never win the ones he was supposed to.

Yes, a team could go to a bowl with six wins, and Onofrio did it in 1972. Unfortunately, he only went to two bowls and had only one season out of seven where his team finished ranked. His lifetime record as a coach at Mizzou was 38-41.

His record and losing consistently to kansas got him fired.

Al was a very good guy, but no thank you.
