Pass rush is really irrelevant against it as Jesse Palmer pointed out last night. That's a staple of the Air Raid - they actually want you to blitz because it opens up the field for their quick hitters and WR screens.
Yep, took exactly one half of football for LSU to realize this against Troy a few years ago.
The only way to beat it is to drop in coverage and force mistakes. Helps when you have fast DEs to discourage a scrambling QB and to get sacks if the QB is in the pocket for forever.
Just gotta hope your 4 or 5 in the box can beat their Oline everytime. Or at least assuming they run the ball which they didn't do against LSU last year. We were begging for it too

First, I wouldn't quote Palmer. He is a moron.
Second, isn't this pass rush. Getting pressure with 4 and not needing to blitz. It is possible to rush that offense. Auburn, Missouri and LSU did it last year.
As long as A&M continues to recruit at the level they are currently they will be strong. There is no reason to overstate how strong.

Congratulations, Aggies. Sumlin is the real deal and I am now terrified of playing y'all at Jerry World.

All you have to do is to have linebackers that can play, just ask Chief.

No way Kevin walks into that situation. I think we'll see him leave for the NFL at some point but I think we get a few more years first.

They didn't try to run enough last night to indicate if it could be shut down.
Not including runs by Kenny Hill, A&M RB's rushed 31 times for 163 yards and 4 TDs. Average of 5.25 yards per carry.

Some of you guys need to come to grips with reality. Instead of "sure thing buddy" or "lmao stop", why don't you try to dispute one single thing I said in the OP?
I'm sure if Jennings/Harris or Sims/Coker went to the #9 team in the country and threw for 511 you'd be all "settle down it's one game", right?

This. Anyone on this board would have ban bet against Kenny throwing 500, probably 400 and no INTs.

Also, the best thing for holding them down is a dominant running game - with a huddle.
this is so true
thank god

Pressure is never irrelevant. You wouldn't want to be aggressive and blitz the heck out of it, but if your front 4 or a 3 man line can get pressure (especially up the middle), then you can force mistakes or throw aways. Did you not watch the LSU D against them in 2012-13. OR the Auburn game from last year? Pressure was the difference.

Straight line speed isn't as important as the ability to start and stop with elite quickness.
Speed is necessary. Having the fat linebackers like Bama and UGA have is a recipe to get torn apart by this offense. However, speed isn't as important and TACKLING.

Is SC's defense that bad?
Has anybody considered that A&M made Alabama's defense look that bad last year...and a lot of other teams? Could be just that A&M's offense is that good.
SC will be fine. You will see a dramatic difference over the next few weeks. Hopefually in week 4.

oh it's VERY good. but SC lost a lot on defense too. Both starting CBs gone, and had a starter injured in the first quarter IIRC.
They'll score points, but SC quick scores didn't help anything. A team like Bama and LSU can keep the ball and run some clock out.

If QB's from a pro style O threw for that much, its a much different conversation.

If the offense is humming it's gonna be hard to get sacks. But pressure is still important. Getting penetration and having D Line get their hands up and swat passes or disrupt throwing lanes can be huge for messing up the timing.

And I stand by the fact that SC's first 2 TDs being long balls almost helped Hill and co stay in rhythm.
You have to try to have some time of posession against a team like aTm.

A&M score 42 on the Tide last year. 31 first downs and 628 total yards. I didn't say A&M BEAT Alabama...just made their defense look bad.

Very true. They lost a lot of talent. But I am willing to bet they are MUCH better than they showed last night.

I THINK Georgia can, too, this year.

I agree with you. You really don't want to get into a shootout with them.

I didn't see anything last night to indicate they were any good. They couldn't cover, couldn't adjust, couldn't get to the quarterback. TAMU played a nearly flawless offensive game but I'm not going to splooge over them yet - SCAR just looked massively overrated.
Doesn't really matter how bad USCe was. It was an impressive win...haven't seen an offense look that good against freaking LAMAR
