I like Gus and think he will be good for Auburn long term but we don't compare head coaches who have been in the league for almost a decade against someone who just finished his rookie year here.
The same argument can be basically made in reverse for Pearl and Jones...
Stupid Thread is Stupid
Alabama Poster will Bama no matter which side
Les has proven to be a perennial 10 win Coach in this league over a sustained period of time. He is already breaking in his 3rd HC at Auburn.
Les is basically Like UGA's Richt except with National Championship hardware. Yet somehow everyone wants to try to knock on him.
Only Saban has the right to do that.

Maybe Jones will prove me wrong. Should be interesting to watch this year and then they should obviously be very good next year with Simmons.
Next year is without question his "shite or get off the pot" season. Quarterman will be NBA ready ( ), Elbert will have a year of development, two talented guards in Horsnby and Gray, and what we expect to be at least a top 5 class coming in.

Jones really needs to capitalize off the exposure and momentum Simmons will bring to the program.
He already is with us being serious players with Blackeney and Thomas. They aren't interested because of the PMAC

My main issue with him is the awful defense his teams generally play. Does not seem to do a very good job in-game.
What's strange is that his aggressive defense was what made UNT a consistent 20 wi team. His first year here, he made LSU's defense respectable with two 5'8" guards and a tuba player. But last season was HORRIBLE. Everyone was stunned. We had great length and athleticism, but no one did shite outside of Mickey. Even worse, it was mainly fundamental issues (hands up, hustle, etc). Strange deal

When your leaders don't hustle, usually the young guys slack off too. Hickey and JOB showed a complete lack of tenacity on D last year. Hickey saw his formerly stellar steal numbers drop tremendously last year down from almost 3 a game to just 1. I blame that on a lack of effort. Jarell Martin also had a hard time staying in front of smaller, quicker 3s. This was in large part because of his poor defensive footwork and lack of conditioning. Now Jarell is apparently down to 230 and it has shown. Much quicker on D. I fully expect LSU to make the tournament this year.
