Don't try to derail this thread with that.

As for jones, he was in a weak conference and thus won the conference similar to old Tony Barbee

2 NCAA Tourneys in 14 years.

Pearl has 6 in 8 years. 15 in 17 years including DII.

Pearl led Milwuakee (who had never reached the tourney before) to two tourneys and the Sweet 16 and has won at a 70% clip in the SEC before.

6 tourneys in 6 years including 3 sweet 16s and an elite 8 at Tennessee after taking over a 15 win team.

It is not close.

Jones' teams do not play a good brand of basketball. Horrendous defensive teams throughout his coaching career.

Instead of going to ot board to answer, I would say that is not a healthy relationship. I would move on. As my preacher used to say " pussy ain't nuthin but meat on the bone, frick it up , suck it up,leave it alone".

or Bruce Pearl at Southern Indiana and Wisconsin Milwaukee before UT hired him. Or Gus Malzahn at Arkansas State. Winning is winning. Again I still think Pearl is better, but you're doing a horrible job arguing your side.

You can't combat them with facts. They only see thru those purple and gold goggles. That's why it is so easy to rile them up

see that's the thing, only UT fans have brought facts. here are your posts ITT

Johnny jones hasn't done crap at LSU and prob won't. Doesn't matter what recruiting classes you get if you got a coach who can't coach them up

I can't wait for them to shut the frick up about AU football. I hope AU runs the score up on them and doesn't mercy knee against them never again

Chizik recruited top classes look what happened to him.

I'm just using the recruiting part as you seem to think that top classes equate to good seasons

Motha fricker! LSU ain't no Kentucky! LSU isn't a basketball school plus Calapari isn't coaching in Baton Rouge

so, where are these facts you've been arguing to support your case? They are out there and they do show that Bruce has proven more; however, you haven't shown anything. You've provided nothing more than meaningless drivel

You make a lot of great points there, no doubt. Pearl did a great job at Milwaukee, better than Jones did at UNT.

I will say that UNT fans were devastated he left, which should be indicative that he did a great job at UNT. They were really bummed he left, and UNT has gone back to being a perennial doormat.

He's a great salesman to the fans and especially recruits. LSU has legitimate shot at the #1 recruiting class this season. He won 19 and 20 games with two 5'8" guards and a tuba player at center one season for depth. There are certainly times he's deserved criticism, but he's done a decent job and deserves adequate time to build his roster

We've got a former NBA head coach as an assistant now that specializes in uptempo offenses. Worst case scenario he's a medicore x's and o's guy that is an elite recruiter. that's an NCAA tournament caliber coach; I'll take that until we build a new pmac

exactly. I would have never jumped into this thread had volfan not chimed in because I actually respect his input.

Garrison is scissoring to those measly two wins they've managed to get against LSU with Les when he's not trying to troll LSU in everything.

It must suck having to try so hard for validation, when it's been a really long time since I've been concerned about Auburn.

You can't compare the two whatsoever. One of them is North Texas, which had made a grand total of 1 NCAA tournament before CJJ was hired. Tennessee on the other hand had a large fanbase and a pretty strong history behind them and had made numerous tournament appearances before Pearl got there. They're incomparable. It just doesn't make sense to compare one coach who's been at a school for 2 years to a coach's entire 8 year body of work at another school.

well to be devil's advocate, Pearl made the NCAAT in year 1 at Tennessee and every single year he was there after coaching at Wisconsin Milwaukee, who had zero Tournament appearances prior to Pearl getting there. he took them 3 straight years, beginning in year 2.

Well I'm already excited for both. LSU will be really good in both, and I (believe it or not) am capable of following two sports at once. Should be a fun fall

Sounds like Pearl walked into a respectably talented roster when he got to Milwaukee. My room mate is from Wisconsin and always raves about the underrated basketball players it produces. It's a moot point because no one in here can fairly compare the two different situations Jones and Pearl walked into back in 2000/2001.

I will completely agree with you if LSU fails to make the tourney and/or at least doesn't make serious noise with the recruiting class we'll be bringing in for next season. Otherwise, I just think it's only fair to sit back and give him more time. It's not like Mike Anderson is a bad coach, and Jones has already experienced good success against him

Maybe Jones will prove me wrong. Should be interesting to watch this year and then they should obviously be very good next year with Simmons.

Jones really needs to capitalize off the exposure and momentum Simmons will bring to the program.

My main issue with him is the awful defense his teams generally play. Does not seem to do a very good job in-game.
