What did they do? Tranquilizer dart I'm guessing.

that's my guess. i've heard the story but it was a long time ago. in the 70s or so

Two tranquilizers. Apparently he attacked a small tree and clawed it up pretty good. He was lying peacfully in the grass when they caught up to him. It was a long, long time ago. Not the current Tiger.
The mascot is supposed to be a purebred Bengal Tiger, but the crurrent one is a mix between Bengal and Siberian, I believe.....something like that.
