Our stadiums are not confused with local high school stadiums, as Mizzou's is.

Because mizzou players usually aren't good enough to leave early for the draft......

We'll see how much that helps you win games this season.

I can't think of a player in a long time that was expected to start immediately as a Freshmen.
Conclusion: Mizzou doesn't recruit instant impact players.

Yes you're right, we can't recruit anyone worth a shite, like one of the best 2015 QB's who will 100% Red Shirt because he has no shot at playing? Ya non impact player.

It's simply a matter of your freshmen not being good enough to play. That's it.
Posted on 8/3/14 at 2:27 pm to TigerCruise
I'm sure if your coach could pull a malachi dupre or a leonard fournette you'd rely on some freshmen...but then again...you're mizzou.

If you have a 2* Senior playing like a 4* is there a difference?

Well judging by mizzou's football history that doesn't happen to often
Posted on 8/3/14 at 2:55 pm to TigerCruise
I can't think of many Mizzou players that left for the NFL their Jr season

That's the secret to Pinkel's success.
He doesn't have the name brand (yet) to shoot fish in barrel like his competition, so he has to identify players a year before they emerge. And he's been wildly prolific doing so, as his winning percentage and longevity testify to.
His latest challenge has been the big boys circling back late in the process to try to pick his pocket. Backyard players they overlooked chasing the 5*, only to realize they were rated too low to begin with. He's held them off, but the word is out on GP's eye for diamonds in the rough.
Players identified early. Coached up. Groomed behind upper classmen. Successful and graduated. Mizzou Made.

In his senior year, no. However, there is obviously a big difference between a player that is ready to contribute his first year or two in the program and the project that needs those first two seasons of development before he's good enough to hit the field. You either get more years of quality play out of the player that is ready to contribute early, or he leaves early and you his scholarship is open a year or two early.
Pinkel makes up for that deficiency in a lot of different ways, but Mizzou would only be better if we had more players that could contribute early.
That being said, we have 8-12 RS freshmen that have a good shot at cracking the depth chart and playing significant minutes this season. Nobody that looks like they will start, but plenty of 2nd stringers that will play lots of snaps.
We also have a sophomore starting at CB that played fantastically as a true freshman last season, and a sophomore backing up a DT spot that was also fantastic last year, but wasn't in good enough shape to play starting snaps at DT. Except for the rare players like Fournette, most players' development is better served getting a RS year to build up their bodies in the weight room before being thrown into SEC play.
