IMO we were pretty close to losing Payne to Southern Miss this time around. Especially being spitting distance from his hometown.

I also think Slice was a bit of a priority because he is known as a damn good big's coach and Kentucky has a few of them this year.

Slice was also offered an assistant position by Cal several years ago…he turned it down and Kenny Payne got the job.
